Match Report - Leven MC Reserves vs. Market Weighton Utd Reserves
20 Sep 2016 by Steve Hunt
Harold Robinson Memorial Cup - First round.
After a disappointing defeat last week the second team bounced back with a hard fought victory in a nine goal thriller.
Leven found themselves 2-0 down in the early stages of the first half before Scott Manterfield headed in at the back post to reduce the deficit. Jonathan Vodden brought Leven level and made it 2-2 with a lovely header. Shortly after Market Weighton took the lead again, however the visitor's lead wasn't to last long. Scott Northen finished off the first half scoring and made it 3-3 with a curling effort into the top corner.
After the break Leven were much improved and Vodden made it 4-3 with a lovely volley from 25 yards. After much pressing from Leven, Ross 'the assassin' Ryalls made it 5-3 after cutting in from the edge of the box and curling a sublime left foot strike into the top corner.
Market Weighton pulled one back towards the end but some resolute defending by Pete Woolsey, Adam Jackson and Josh Hemingway meant the Swarmas came away with the victory in a much improved performance and see them progress to the second round of the cup.
Final Score:
Leven MC Reserves - 5
Market Weighton Utd. Res. - 4
Man of the Match : Scott Manterfield for his fine performance down the left wing
